Faith, Formation, and Future (3F)

Exciting times lie ahead for Hartwell First Methodist Church! We’ve seen some wonderful changes in recent years, and it’s time to chart our path forward in alignment with God’s plan for our church. Let’s embark on this journey together towards a bright future for our church!

3F Team Updates

April 12-16,2026

Listening Sessions were held with the 3F Team to share about our past, our vision for the future, and hear feedback about hopes and concerns of the congregation.

April 24, 2026

We appreciate everyone's participation in one of the four listening sessions organized by the Faith, Foundation and Future team.  Each session had a great exchange of thoughts and ideas to help our church move forward in both the short and long term.  We are currently reviewing all of the data collected and will provide you with an update in the near future. Until then, please see below the words shared by the participants on their feelings of Hartwell First as we move forward...

Hopeful, Heard, Grateful, Encouraging, Progressive, Exciting / Excitement, Enlightening, Optimistic, Blessed, Included, Feel Good, Prayerful, Happy, Bright, Caring, Comfortable, God has a plan, Inclusive, Invigorated, Focused, Positive, Promising, Improving, Changes.

In April, we hosted four listening sessions to hear directly from our congregation about the needs of our church—both now and into the future. More than 230 people attended, sharing approximately 284 thoughtful suggestions and recommendations. Although not every item falls within our team’s scope, we have separated the ideas and divided them into operational and capital needs.  Operational needs have been handed off to the Administrative Council and staff for consideration, and our team will begin focusing on future capital needs.  Our goal is to ensure every voice is heard and every suggestion is given careful consideration.

Our team has begun taking a closer look at the items identified during the listening sessions that fall within our area of responsibility. We are also developing a timeline to address these items thoughtfully and effectively.

You may have already noticed the newly created ballfield at the back of our church property. In the near future, additional accessible space adjacent to the gym will also be developed to support our youth ministry. These improvements provide our church with additional ministry opportunities for children and youth.

Although these projects are not directly under the responsibility of the 3F Team, both were highlighted during our April listening sessions. They were documented and shared with our staff and Administrative Council for further consideration and action, and we want to share this information with you.

Through April listening sessions and staff interviews, we heard strong consensus that our church needs more space and that a building campaign is necessary to meet current and future needs. We also recognized the need for a professional consultant to guide the process. Our team met with Generis, a firm our church worked with successfully on the fellowship hall and children’s area in the early 2000s. We chose Generis to build on that relationship and benefit from their expertise. At the July Administrative Council meeting, our team presented this recommendation, and it was approved.

Sierra Gehweiler was recently introduced to the congregation as our new Communications Director. This position directly responds to feedback from the listening sessions that our church needs to improve communication with the congregation. Church leadership agreed, invited applications, and filled the role.
